Rethinking Breathing Techniques

When I first discovered Rickson Gracie the legendary jiu jitsu fighter , and saw what he was preaching about breathing, I was blown away, but mostly because I couldn’t do what he was doing —  moving his belly the way he did, much less sit like this without back pain…

Later once I became more aware of the fascial chains in my body , I realized how he was doing this. I no longer deep breathe into just my belly (ie the traditional advice), I breathe into my fascial chains … I focus less on avoidance of my chest rising and more on breathing through these chains, even into my head and through my spine.

There are two chains running through my abs and chest on front of my body into my hip flexors, the ones I had the hardest time accessing were the two posterior fascial chains running from glutes and outter hips up through obliques and lats and your posterior core, and then there are the two closest to your spine. So total of 6 major chains in upper body.

You can breathe into each one of these, synchronize them, breathe across them. This visualization gave me awareness and a new understanding of how Gracie is doing this.

This fascial chain awareness combined with breath work and movement reactivated my mind body connection to ultimately get away from chronic back pain.

But no one was talking to me about it in this way.  Follow me to learn more.

Your respiratory system, along with nervous system is running all through these fascial chains which are loosely understood today.
